My Creatureplica Reviews
Reviews for the Creatureplica Figures:
1. The Himalayan Yeti
This figure is based on the legends of the Yet or Abominable Snowman in the Himalayan regions
of Southern Asia and northern India. According to some accounts, the Yet is aggressive and can
be considered dangerous. The first sightings occurred in the 1800's but were brought to
international province 65 years ago when Mountain Climber Eric Shipton found and
photographed an unusual footprint which appeared to be of a hominid type of creature and not
of any animal known to occupy that region. Since then, searches have taken place, including one
funded by Texas oil millionaire Tom Slick in the late-1950's. The best account of these
expeditions can be found in Loren Coleman's book Tom Slick: True Life Encounters in
Cryptozoology. The Yet remains an unknown entity, and some believe that species may have
died off. Now, on to the figure:
The figure is really well-built and is quite muscular, much like a real Yet would be. It is white with
blue and yellow highlights as well as brown toes, hands, chest and face. It has a open mouth,
revealing some nasty-looking fangs, but the mouth is not articulated. The toenails and fingernails
(or claws) are black or dark-brown. The figure has several points of articulation, in the shoulders,
swivel forearms, swivel wrists, bending knees and elbows, a turning head which also pivots
slightly upwards and downwards, articulation at the hips, a swivel chest and ball-jointed ankles.
You may note in one of my photos it is military-pressing an Archie Mcphee Bigfoot action figure.
The size of this figure is about 10" which makes it very large and perfectly compatible with
figures in this size range. The sculpt is really fantastic and the base it comes on, resembling an icy
field with a goat skull for emphasis, gives it more gravitas. This is a dynamic and terrific figure,
one I highly recommend picking up.
2. North American Sasquatch:
The history of Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, is a long and varied one, and not one without some
controversy. The legendary creatures had long been known to Natve American and First Nations
peoples for many centuries, but really did not come into proper knowledge and culture until
1958 when a road construction foreman named Gerry Crew found these footprints around his
bulldozer in Northern California. Getting advice from his taxidermist friend Bob Titmus (and
some plaster) he casted two of these tracks and was photographed with one of them for the
Humboldt Times newspaper. The picture and story were subsequentially picked up by the AP and
went nationwide, with the headline reading New Sasquatch Found: It's Called Bigfoot, and the
name stuck. 9 years later, two cowboys from Yakima, Washington, Roger Patterson and Bob
Gimlin, rode into the Six Rivers National Forest just miles from where the first footprints were
found looking for fresh evidence. What they found was a dark-colored, large hairy hominid
squatting by a creek. It stood up and slowly walked away from the two men who were on
horseback. Patterson had a movie camera, 16 MM, and filmed about a minute of what is
considered either a fabulous hoax by some, or proof of unknown hominids in the wilds of
Northern California. Nearly 50 years later, the authenticity of this film is still being debated, even
by Bigfooters themselves. There has not been much photographic or video evidence that has
matched the notoriety or popularity of this film, and the species still remains unproven to
science. Now the figure:
The coloring on this figure is really great-brown with grey highlights on the face, feet and hands.
It is a bit shorter than the Yet, probably about 8 inches tall. It is muscular like the Yeti, but not
quite as buff. The points of articulation are for the most part good, except for the waist, and it
has much the same articulation as the Yet. The face is a contrast to the Yet, more placid and
gentle, which fits the descriptions by most eyewitnesses. As you can see in one of my photos, I
can pose it like the creature in the Patterson/Gimlin Film with not much problem. The base it
comes with is much like a forest floor, with a tree stump that attaches pretty easily. Overall, it is a
good figure, great sculpt, with the only downside being the lack of waist articulation. Still do
recommend it, however.
3. The Horrorhound:
This is the only fictional character in this line, but the history behind this character is it was a
soldier in WWII which was killed, turned into a zombie werewolf and brought back to life by the
Nazis. The figure:
The sculpt on this figure is great for a fictional character. There are stitched parts similar to a
Frankenstein's Monster and it is truly a zombie werewolf. It is a darker brown than the
Sasquatch, with grey and white highlights. It is probably a bit taller than the Yet and is the same
size as the Rougarou. The articulation is absolutely fantastic, much better than on the Sasquatch
and Yet figures, with articulated wrists, ankle joints, swivel legs, a swivel waist AND chest and
even articulated shins!!!!!!! The face is truly terrifying and the head articulation on this is much
better than on the previous two figures. The base is of a graveyard scene, complete with
attachable tombstone which reads Warren. As good as the Sasquatch and Yet figures are, this
one tops even those!!!!!!! One particular feature on the figure is the intestines sticking through
the stomach area. Fantastic detail!!!!!!!!
4. Louisiana Rougarou:
The legends of this creature go back many years, basically describing the condition of
lycanthropy which is the belief that a man can transform into a wolf when there is a full moon. In
Louisiana, it is believed that a voodoo spell can transform a man into a wolf, although the
Rougarou (also known as the Lougarou) may be a Swamp Monster similar to Bigfoot according to
some legends. The figure:
This figure has the same sculpting and articulation as the Horrorhound, except that the jaw is
articulated too and can open or close. It also has a small tail. It is grey with some white and
brown highlights. The base is similar to a swampy terrain, with a pile of bones which may be the
victim of this vicious creature. It also comes with bits of a shirt that can be fitted to the figure
similar to the old Incredible Hulk TV series.
Overall ratings for each figure:
Himalayan Yeti-**** out of *****
North American Sasquatch-*** 1/2 out of *****
Horrorhound-***** out of *****
Louisiana Rougarou-***** out of *****
This line is really terrific and the sculptor Jean St. Jean is very talented and is promising more
figures in this line. All of these figures can be found at www.creatureplica.com
